Cenderawasih

Cenderawasih was launched on April 29, 1989. It was written and illustrated by the artist herself and is Ilse Noor’s fourth book. Written in verse, Cenderawasih spins a tale of Sultan Abdul Musa’s visit to seven palaces where he has seven unusual dreams. Mythical birds like the Cenderawasih (Bird of Paradise), Burung Bayan (Lovebird), and Burung Nuri (Parrot) circle his nocturnal flight of fancy. Malay pantuns (poems) interposed with each dream serve the actual purpose of anchoring the dreams and stoking the readers imagination.
